This is a review of our Driftcars and our first year of Drifting. Keep Drifting Simple is all about spending the least amount of money and getting the most out of your drifting experience. My Brother and I have been drifting now for 1 year and this is what we learned. We learned that drifting is an expensive sport, but it doesn't have to be.

over the last 3 years, my brother and I have been building and swapping our RX7 into an amazing drift car. It started as a simple stock RX7 and we had the crazy idea to turn it into a race car. We wanted more power so we decided that v8 swapping it would be the best way to do that. Well, we completely blew our budget. We completely overbuilt this car way past our current abilities as drivers. This was not the right way to do things.

My brother bought a Miata back when he was in high school and eventually converted it to compete in a local road racing series. The car did great for a few years, but it was getting too expensive to continue driving in that series. Then we discovered drifting.

Drifting was a welcoming sport with a great community. We went to a local event and quickly decided we needed to get involved in this sport. It was so much cheaper than road racing and the requirements were very relaxed. We read the rule books and decided to turn our cars into drift cars.

My brother ran his Miata stock for a few events. He slowly added power with a turbo kit. Then added a few drifting parts by welding the differential, adding a hydraulic handbrake, and steering knuckles his car was ready for anything. It wasn't overpowered, it handled amazing, and it was above all reliable.

My car was another story. It was barely running after somewhat finishing the swap. Then I decided over a winter to tear it back down and transform it into a true drift car. This is where I went down the rabbit hole. Nothing was ever good enough. I was extremely meticulous and made sure everything was set up to the best of my ability (which can be pretty bad at times lol). So while I spent months getting my car ready, my brother was getting seat time and drifting at almost every event.

I tell you this story not to discourage you, but to encourage you to get into drifting. I love this sport and I will do whatever I can to keep drifting. I just don't want you to make the same mistakes I made. Take it from an amateur, you don't need a pro level car if your skill as a drifter is not pro level. Save the money and get the seat time in. What is the point of having an amazing car if you can't reliably drive it?

And just remember guys and gals, "simple doesn't mean missile".
